Two TerraLex Members Appointed to the International Bar Association Management Board

Two TerraLex members have been appointed to the Management Board of the International Bar Association (IBA) for the 2017 and 2018 calendar years. Horacio Bernardes-Neto, senior partner of Motta Fernandes Advogados, has been named the Vice-President of the IBA and Jaime Carey, managing partner of Carey, has been selected as chair of the IBA Legal Practice Division (LPD).

Bernardes-Neto has been a member of the IBA since 1982 and holds office in many legal associations. In addition to being a member of the IBA Management Board, posts in the IBA held by Bernardes-Neto have included: IBA Secretary-General and Chair of the IBA Bar Issues Commission.

Carey’s appointment as Chair of the IBA LPD is thought to be the highest-ranking position held by a Chilean lawyer at the association today. Carey plans to increase the LPD’s profile worldwide during his tenure by expanding the organization’s reach in the legal markets of China, India, the Middle East and Africa.

Established in 1947, the IBA is the world's leading organization of international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies. The IBA influences the development of international law reform and shapes the future of the legal profession throughout the world.
