On January 25, 2017, Porter Hedges and Santamarina y Steta hosted a commissioner from the Mexican Energy Regulatory Commission in Houston for a presentation and private dinner. Commissioner Guillermo Zuñiga discussed the ongoing reform of the Mexican energy sector and the future outlook for companies looking at Mexico.
The audience included more than 30 companies and lawyers who are actively involved in investing in Mexico and/or exploring future business opportunities.
The idea for the program began with a conversation at the New York global meeting between the two firms on ways to better work together. With energy as a common link, Porter Hedges tax partner Jim Reardon worked with Santamarina y Steta corporate lawyer Juan Carlos Machorro to coordinate the event. It was a tremendous success and the beginning of an open dialogue between the firms and their clients about the rapidly changing Mexican energy sector.
